Hawk Rise Sanctuary is a 95 acre park created in 2012 in the City of Linden in Union County. It is an important environmental feature of the Rahway River and Arthur Kill watershed with 55 acres composed of grassland converted from Linden’s former landfill, while the remaining acres are salt marsh and wooded wetland habitat. A wide range of plant and wildlife that can be observed and includes birds, turtles, frogs, salamanders, and small mammals.
Hawk Rise Sanctuary includes a network of trails, open space, viewing stations, and parks. This network within Hawk Rise Sanctuary connects visitors to the environment while protecting bodies of water and conserving wildlife from environmental and manmade threats. These connections are enhanced by the variety of educational programming and opportunities. This urban oasis serves not only to unite the local community as stewards of the environment, but it also fosters awareness of environmental concerns in often forgotten areas of New Jersey.
