Downtown Freehold is home to a historic village center, centrally located in Monmouth County. As the County seat, Downtown Freehold is home to many county services and offices including the County Clerk in the Market Yard, County Superior Courthouse, and the Board of Chosen Freeholders in the Hall of Records, which is the historic site of the original Monmouth County Courthouse that, during the Revolutionary War served as a field hospital throughout the Battle of Monmouth.
